Lest We Forget

The War Memorial in 1908In 1917 the rector wrote a list of parishioners who had been killed or who were missing in action from August 1914 to January 1918. He added three further men after that date, in all 27 men. Their names are in the order presented in this list. He made a further list of all men who served in the Great War, transcribed below.

William LEONARD Private 6478 1st Batallion North Staffordshire Regiment. Died 14 June 1916 aged 30 years. Son of the late Charles and Emma Leonard. Husband of Annie Ethel Hawkes (formerly Leonard) of Bishop Auckland.

Ellis WOODLEY - Bombardier 14450 "C" Bty. 163rd Bde, Royal Field Artillery. Died of wounds 7 March 1916 aged 22 years. Son of Barnard & Kate Woodley, Castle Camps.

Frederick EGAN Able Seaman 8844 H.M.S/M "FZ4" Royal Navy, died 27 March 1916, aged 21 years. Son of the late William & Martha Egan, Stepson of William & Lizzie Rayner, Coles Hill, Castle Camps

Fred WENHAM -  Private 722966 24th Battalion London Regiment, died 5 December 1917 aged 25 years. Son of Albert & Ellen Wenham, 1 Alpha Terrace, Castle Camps.
