The United Reformed Church lies in the heart of Castle Camps and ministered to many of the residents of the area from the beginning of the 19th century. In 1813 a building was registered for dissenting worshippers and another for a Baptist congregation in 1822. This Baptist chapel had an average congregation of 200 souls but had disappeared by 1877. The Independant Chapel was founded in 1852 and built in 1856 and had an adult membership of between 30 and 50 in the early 1900s. In 1897 a third of the local population were said to have been dissenters.
