Ruth Joyce

Ruth (known as Lillie) Joyce was born in Castle Camps on 29 Nov 1874, the second daughter of Joseph Joyce and Rebecca (neē Barrett, the daughter of Charles Barrett of the Castle Inn). By the age of 16 she was in domestic service in Hempstead, Essex. In 1891 she was a cook in the household of a retired solicitor on the Isle of Wight.


She met and married William Morris, a Portsmouth policeman whose father was the landlord of the White Horse, Whitwell, IOW.
They had two sons and two daughters and five grandchildren. Lillie died in Portsmouth on 15 Oct 1941
